Tauplitz – Bad Mitterndorf
The ski resort Tauplitz – Bad Mitterndorf is located in the Ausseerland. There is 43.5 km of slopes and 2 km of ski route for skiing and snowboarding. Winter sports enthusiasts have access to a total of 17 lifts. This winter sports area is located at an altitude of 896 to 1,965 m.
The Tauplitz ski area above Bad Mitterndorf is simply lovely. Well-arranged, family-friendly and exceptionally well-maintained. Sun-drenched and yet one of the snowiest ski areas in the Alps. The Tauplitz offers a diverse range of ski areas for all levels. Families with children can enjoy beautiful children’s areas in the Tauplitz winter sports area, while off-piste skiers can choose from various options.

Ski depot
There is a ski depot at the Tauplitzalm valley station. Here you can store your ski equipment in heated cabinets. Rental price approximately 2 euros per person per day.
Haus/Schladming
Within 25 minutes by car from Alter Kindergarten you will be standing in this beautiful area. As part of the Ski amade, the possibilities here are endless. The ski areas are spread over several mountains and have more than 200 kilometers of slopes. The winter sports season starts here in the fall and continues well into the spring.
Cross-country skiing
Beautiful trails and plenty of sunshine!
There are many trails within walking distance of the Alter Kindergarten: with a length of about 177 km, the cross-country network is one of the longest in Austria and certainly one of the most beautiful.
The trails in and around Bad Mitterndorf are flat, those on the Tauplitzalm are more challenging. All are well maintained with reliable snow conditions.

Dachstein – Glacier
The Dachstein Glacier is a fifteen minute drive from Alter Kindergarten. Fancy snow but it’s not winter yet? Then go to the Dachstein Glacier.
If there is enough snow, you can enjoy beautiful and versatile slopes here from autumn to spring. The north-facing slopes guarantee ideal snow conditions. Freeriders are also at the right place here. Skiing, cross-country skiing or ski touring? The 2,700-high Dachstein Glacier is the right choice for anyone who just can’t get enough of the snow.

Husky sled ride
From the ranch we drive about 10 km by car to our trail at Lake Offensee.
We start with a bit of theory and then you will learn how to deal with these wonderful and fascinating animals. You will receive instruction in handling the equipment and the commands to be able to steer the sled yourself. Then the adventure can begin!
The adrenaline level rises on the trail near Offensee of approx. 2 – 3 kilometers with two dogs from our team in a team! The journey time is approx. 15 – 25 minutes depending on the nature of the trail. This unique experience will remain unforgettable for you.
Afterwards we go back to the ranch and the dogs are taken care of together and you will receive a little refreshment. You can end the day comfortably with our furry friends in our rustic wooden hut.
Winter walks/hiking

The immaculately maintained winter hiking trails on Die Tauplitz are truly spectacular: 360° panoramic views over hundreds of peaks, plenty of snow and, weather permitting, glorious sunshine all day long.
High in the mountains, time changes to the rhythms of nature itself. Spending a day at Die Tauplitz and Bad Mitterndorf can be just as useful as a long weekend.
Snowshoeing
In addition to a regular winter walk, Bad Mitterndorf also offers plenty of options for snowshoeing. Experience the special landscape from a high mountain plateau with panoramic views of valleys and rugged limestone cliffs. A great opportunity for a varied holiday week around idyllic mountain lakes and untouched romantic valleys. A tour with a local ‘mountain guide’ is possible.
Tobogganing
SPEED, ADRENALINE AND GREAT APRÈS SKI
The stars sparkle, the runners of your sled glow and the snow crunches under your sled: at speeds of up to 60 km/h you can descend our certified toboggan run on the Grafenwiesen slope in Tauplitz. The ideal après-ski experience for all night owls who need speed.
An exciting nighttime toboggan expedition is one of the best experiences you can have in the Ausseerland – Salzkammergut region. Our toboggan run is located next to the Grafenwiesen lift in the town of Tauplitz.
3 Tobogganing routes around Bad Mitterndorf
Ski touring
Since the winter season 2019/20 there is a new and clearly marked ski touring route from Bad Mitterndorf to the Tauplitzalm. It is open to tourers when there is enough natural snow on the ground.
The tour is about 2 hours of climbing and has 820 vertical meters.
During this route you can explore the beautiful winter landscape around Bad Mitterndorf in Ausseerland – Salzkammergut. As soon as you reach the Tauplitzalm (1650 m), you will be rewarded with an inspiring mountain world. The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and starts at Gästehaus Gewessler, in Bad Mitterndorf.
The route leads through forest areas and over narrow bridges. Then after about 30 minutes you will arrive at the edge of the piste at the base station of the Mitterstein gondola. From here you pass to the right of the small reservoir and make your way through a series of hairpin bends to the “Brentenmöser Alm”. Here you cross the piste and climb up to the Tauplitzalm car park. Your tour continues along the edge of the forest until you reach the village of Tauplitzalm at approx. 1650 m, where you will discover pleasant refreshments.
When you’re ready to return to the valley, you have a choice of two groomed pistes during the day, to Tauplitz and Bad Mitterndorf – the interactive piste map tells you which of the pistes are currently open.
Sleigh ride
Enjoy a winter wonderland and pure silence.
The glittering snow, the clear winter air and the spirited snorting of horses: sleigh rides offer you the opportunity to explore the snowy landscape around Bad Mitterndorf at a more leisurely pace. A heartwarming experience for families, groups of friends and pure enjoyment.
